Offshore 97

Audio excellence in music production – with no AI

Remarkable

A remarkable thing started happening in the summer of 1996 in Ibiza. One particular DJ in Pacha started spinning the accapella mix of “A little Love a Little Life” by PowerCircle over “Offshore” by Chicane. Remarkably both pieces were in the same key and of the same tempo, so it made for an easy “mashup” of the two.

It whipped up a storm with clubbers and soon every DJ had made the connection and was including it in their set. It became the thing of the summer.

Top Twenty

Back at Deep Distraxion, the record label realised that both Chicane and PowerCircle were on contract, so went back into the studio and had DJ Anthony Pappa mix the definitive version which was subsequently released as “Offshore 97”.

This was hugely well-received and went into the Top Twenty in September of that year.

It was also licensed onto the top Dance compilations for the year, appearing on 30-40 of these directly afterwards.

A video was made featuring Louise, appearing on MTV and viewable on You Tube.

There have been various authorised licensings of the Vocal, a few bootlegs and cover versions subsequently.
